Classroom Highlights
Class was very busy this past month. See our activities below.
Science
Students welcomed a little tadpole to the classroom to observe how a tadpole changes into a frog. We fed it every day, changed its spring water as needed, journaled its weekly changes and made sure it was “well adjusted”. We knew it was happy when it would swim “head down- tail up”. Watching its back legs grow from flippers to full grown legs, seeing its front legs emerge and observing its tail getting smaller and smaller was simply amazing to us. And finally, last week we could say we have a full grown pet frog in our classroom. We are now in the process of determining if it is male or female. Male underwater frogs will have a black stripe on the inside of their legs and will “ribbit”. So far we have not heard any sounds, but we are definitely listening!
Social Studies
In our last unit of Social Studies, we are learning all about government, being a good citizen, and national monuments. Hopefully, we will have time yet this school year to take a “trip around the world” where we will learn more about our country’s symbols and places that are so important to America. We will start by taking a real trip to the City Hall where we will meet the Mayor. We will tour his office, ask questions about his job, and get a chance to sit in the City Council Chambers.
Religion
The students have also been very excited and very busy practicing reading their lines for our chapel presentation.
English
We performed a play based on the book, If I Only Had a Green Nose, by Max Lucado. The main character learned how important it is to be who God created us to be no matter how much we want to fit in. God made us all unique for a reason and He will always help you be you-wonderfully you! “I will praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful.”
Spanish
The whole school got together for a Cinco de Mayo fiesta! We had walking tacos for lunch and played Loteria! (Spanish bingo). We also did the “Mexican Hat Dance”, had a piñata (thanks Mrs. Stelter), and ran a Mexican hat relay race. It was so much fun for all of us to get together to share in this event. Students are
concentrating on affirmative and negative words and using adjectives as nouns. We are learning the names of foods, specifically fruits and vegetables.
