Classroom Highlights

Christmas things are packed away, the snow has finally arrived in Wisconsin, and the kindergarten students are hard at work in class. We are continually learning, practicing, writing, and engaging ourselves in all things letters! The kids are working hard on progressing through the year with their alphabet skills and numerical skills. Now that we have snow, we have incorporated that into several lessons. The children measure how much we have accumulated, we have talked about what makes snow melt, and have discussed the various fun activities we like to do in the snow.

This month our author is Jan Brett, and her stories are very appropriate for the season. Two of the kid's favorites have been “The Mitten” and “The Hat.” After reading these books the children worked on comparing and contrasting the two picture stories. We also read “The Umbrella” which lead into discussions on rainforest life and temperature differences. The children had a fun time figuring out what rainforest animal they would like to be! We displayed these projects in the hallway for all to see.

Finally, we went to Harmony Living Center and enjoyed bingo, snacks, and fellowship with many residents. The kids sang for their "adopted grandma's" and shared God's message with them for an afternoon. This outreach is a rewarding experience for the students!
